Judging a Book by it's Cover

When asked to choose a book cover that I LOVE, I couldn't pick just one, so whittled it down to two.

The first (picture above) is a book that I own. My mother bought it for me a few christmas' ago, most likely to spark my inner designer, and found this amazing London-based book company - Laurence King Publishing Ltd
Even though I don't have a burning desire for fashion, I really fell in love with articles inside, focussing more on fashion launches and catwalk invites
(photos and layout design - yum)

The cover is made of condensed cardboard, and has letters printed into it, making it very tactile  - something you just want to run your hands over! With rosy hue tinted edgy fashion photography, it really stood apart from traditional and cliche fashion related covers (not a mopey model in sight) to make something both beautiful and intriguing.

"I Used to Be a Design Student: 50 Graphic Designers Then and Now"
By Billy Kiosoglou and Frank Philippin

The second book I chose is from the same publishers and one which I aspire to own. It compares the work 50 designers, one current and one from their days as a student, as well as tips and insight to their route through education.

I love simplicity. Something clean and smart without being dull is the pinnacle of my design taste - something that just WORKS!

And this is why I like this particular cover, you know what you're getting - it's informative, but still make you want to pick it up and read a couple of the designer profiles. A simple off-white back ground, gridded text and a pop of colour for the title creates a perfect balance. Definitely adding this to my 'wish list'
